Summer Sparks 2012

Call for Entries

Jump-Start Performance Co. is accepting proposals for participation in Summer Sparks 2012, a festival of original performance work by local artists.

Proposed work should be finished (this is not a developmental showcase), 15 minutes or less playing time, and should never have been presented in San Antonio in finished form.

Performance dates are June 8-9, 2012. Selected pieces may be asked to play one or more of those performance dates. Selected artists may be asked to participate in panel discussions and/or community workshops as well. A small stipend will be paid and you will have access to high-quality documentation materials from the event.

The deadline to submit a completed proposal form and support materials (Resumes, production stills, video clips, reviews, etc.), is May 7, 2012. Please include as full a description of the piece as possible, for marketing purposes. And keep in mind that the structure of the event will best support minimal and/or easily portable technical and scenic elements.

Selected participants will be notified via email on May 11, 2012.

Proposal forms should be sent (and questions addressed) to Jump-Start’s Artistic Director, S.T. Shimi, at shimi@jump-start.org, using the subject header “Summer Sparks 2012 Proposal.”

Click below to download the Project Proposal.

Dreamers’ Window
By Billy Muñoz

FREE CAM Event in the front window of Jump-Start!

8:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.

We dream. We go on adventures. Battle zombies. Ghosts are everywhere. We find love. We kill. We lose. We steal. We cry. We succeed…and then…we wake up. Leftover bits float around. Things seem to have happened before. Conversations you thought you had. People you feel that you have met before. The song that you heard in your dream takes awhile to fade away…

Look through the window into the lives of two separate people. They are miles and miles apart but they are connected in their dreams. Only in their dreams. Do they even exist in this awakened world? Watch them dream and see how they put the leftover pieces of those dreams together when they are awake.

Named one of San Antonio’s Best Shows of 2010, I’ll Remember For You by Lisa Suárez is a bilingual theater production depicting a Mexican-American woman’s experiences, feelings and thoughts surrounding her mother’s dementia and memory loss. In this courageous, deeply personal and unsentimental look at the role of the caregiver in this growing epidemic, Suárez brings her own life with her aging mother to the stage. She writes about – and portrays – her mother with humor and respect, love and frustration, fear, sadness and celebration.

I’ll Remember For You is a very private look at an increasingly public dynamic. As medical science enables us to live longer, perhaps money ear-marked for research into a “cure” for aging-related dementia could be better spent on support infrastructure for the afflicted and their caregivers… who will be us.
