Secret love affairs, the history of outlawing love and the underground ways that LGBT people managed to survive and love each other in decades past are revealed in this powerful show by award-winning Sean Dorsey Dance. The Secret History of Love comes to San Antonio during a 15-city nationally commissioned tour.
From 1920’s speakeasies to wartime love affairs, from police raids to steamy underground cabarets, the “love that dared not speak its name” explodes onstage in this powerful dance-theater production by transgender trailblazer Sean Dorsey.

Dorsey created The Secret History Of Love through a two-year National LGBT Elders Oral History Project. The Secret History Of Love features the voices and life stories Dorsey recorded in these oral history interviews – along with powerful, moving and hilarious episodes from the LGBT community’s remarkable history of survival and love against tremendous odds.
The Secret History Of Love features full-throttle dancing, riveting storytelling, luscious partnering and first-hand tales of tremendous risk, passionate love, impossible courage, heart-breaking loss, and bold resistance – revealing the great resiliency and strength of the human heart … even in the face of great danger and devastating violence. Dorsey says, “These stories belong to all of us, this is American history – everyone can relate to these profoundly powerful tales of love and perseverance.”

Original music by Jesse Olson Bay, Storm Miguel Florez, Alex Kelly, Ben Kessler, Jeffrey Alphonsus Mooney and Ramon and Jessica. Lighting Design by Clyde Sheets, Costume Design by Tiffany Amundson, Technical Coordination by Emily Paulson.
