The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center and Jump-Start Performance Co. present…
Outside the Circle
a new play by Andrea Assaf and Samuel Valdez that examines the nature of love, and what happens to love when we internalize society’s phobias.
Outside the Circle, is a funny & heartbreaking new play that brings people together across identities and communities to explore what love is, and what happens to love when we internalize society’s phobias. A straight man with cerebral palsy and a queer woman recount their adventures, and share their woes, of unsuccessful attempts to seduce (straight) women. Their lives on both sides of the border intersect one night, when they meet at a Tijuana bar, and become entwined in each other’s stories. Their parallel and interweaving tales of unrequited love reveal the illusions of normalcy, and the liberation possible when choosing life…outside the circle. The play is bilingual (English & Spanish) with adult language and content and includes a post-show dialogue after each performance.
Performances happen at The Sterling Houston Theater (108 Blue Star, San Antonio, Texas 78204) on the following dates and times:
