Adelina Anthony in…
LA HOCICONA SERIES: AN ORIGINAL X-X-XICANA COMEDIC TRIPTYCH OF SCANDALOUS PROPORTIONS
February 25, 26 & 27 – Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday Time 3 p.m.
Three solo comedy shows back-to-back:
Friday – La Angry Xicana?! is a full-length comedy show that features Adelina’s trademark salacious Spanglish humor and flirts with all kinds of cultural taboos. La Angry Xicana?! weaves together critiques of Hollywood, the U.S. corporate media, purported lesbian gang epidemics, conservative politics and the semi-sacred courtship that happens only among queer womyn of color, to name a few. Using comedy as a weapon of choice, the show operates from queer/feminist/indigenous perspectives and examines possible sources of contemporary and historical anger among womyn of color.
Saturday – La Sad Girl…is a full-throttle crazy ride where the comedy just “goth” darker! In this second show, Adelina talks about everything from ultra-dramatic break-ups to good old fashioned BDSM. Along the way she also turns the political tables on homophobia, higher education, anti-immigration, and Xicanas who date by tribe, all while keeping up with her “therapy” sessions.
Sunday – La Chismosa!!! is Adelina’s final show that brings the cycle full circle as she takes up even more hilarious stereotypes and creates new ones! Among its many themes La Chismosa!!! takes on migratory border issues, Facebook chisme, single motherhood, mental issues for Xicanas who may be a wee bit paranoid (who’s talking about me?!) and a provocative look at sexuality through her character’s zany perspective(s). Who knew making the return to Coatlicue could be so much work–I mean, fun!
Each comedy shows stands alone, but seeing all 3 of them during this limited run is a rare opportunity to witness and participate in critical locura–Xicana style!

ADELINA ANTHONY is a self-identified Xicana-Indígena lesbian multi-disciplinary artista. The themes in her works address colonization, feminism, trauma, memory, gender, race/ ethnicity, sexuality, in/migration, health, land/environment, and issues generally affecting the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/two-spirited communities. She believes access to a progressive education, transgressive art, therapy and other healing methods empowers both individuals and communities to make healthy and transformative life choices. (The key, claro, is sticking to those choices… maybe it’s one of the reasons we need the rituals of arte in our lives?)
