I’ll Remember For You
(Yo Me Acuerdo Por Ti)

By Lisa Suarez
Directed by Laurie Dietrich

September 17 – 26, 2010
Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m.

Sunday, September 19, 2010 – Join us for a post-show community conversation about aging, caregiving & the growing epidemic of Alzheimer’s.

$15 general admission, $12 students and seniors, $10 for groups of 10 or more!

In May, 2010, the Alzheimer’s Association released a report that anticipates the number of Americans aged 65 or older with Alzheimer’s will increase from 5.1 million today to 13.5 million in 40 years. By then, the annual cost of caring for people with Alzheimer’s will exceed $20 trillion.

I’ll Remember For You by Lisa Suarez is a new bilingual theater production depicting a Mexican-American woman’s experiences,
feelings and thoughts surrounding her mother’s dementia and memory loss. In this courageous, deeply personal and unsentimental look at the role of the caregiver in this growing epidemic, Suarez brings her own life with her aging mother to the stage. She writes about – and portrays – her mother with humor and respect, love and frustration, fear, sadness and celebration.

I’ll Remember For You is a very private look at an increasingly
public dynamic. As medical science enables us to live longer,
perhaps money ear-marked for research into a “cure” for aging-
related dementia could be better spent on support infrastructure for
the afflicted and their caregivers…who will be us.

This is a must see!!! I was lucky to see a snippit at the Alternate Roots Meeting (Arden, NC) in August 2010, and was taken on a wave of emotions, ideas, and truths (for myself/universal). Lisa Suarez is a true talent, and I am thankful for her bringing these realities into our own lives.

A MUST SEE for anyone caring for a parent with dementia, Lisa’s “I’ll Remember for You” was authentic to core. Although the dynamics of the pre-dementia mother/daughter relationship, my personality, and our cultural background were different, Lisa told my story. At one point, I was sitting where I could see the videotaper’s monitor, a…nd in the dark, the daughter’s's face became my own.

Suarez’s daughter plays neither martyr or Pollyanna, but a daughter whose only choice is a commitment of care.

This is a play that should be produced on every stage.

LAST Chance today, clear your schedule and GO.
